Dear 4th & 5th Grade Families,

Students brought home a written letter today, sharing the information below.

This week we are typing and revising our State Reports. Your child can view his/her report by going to docs.google.com and signing in with their mountainesd account. If you have trouble, please send me a quick email and I'll try to figure out what is going on.

Talent Show Try-outs are going on this week during lunch!

This Friday is "Best of Spirit Wear" Day when students can come to school in whichever favorite spirit wear theme they'd like to!

This Friday we will also be celebrating May Birthday! Summer birthdays will be celebrated the last week of school.

Thank you & please feel free to email me at rhonig@mountainesd.org with questions or concerns.

Week of 5/19 Newsletter

Dear 4th & 5th Grade Families,

I hope this finds you well! We had a wonderful time at the creek on Friday! Thank you to Amanda, Kristina and Amy for joining us. We saw a turtle, a bunch of fish, some crawdads, frogs and many other critters! Students brought vials and vinegar down to find rocks that contained calcite and we discovered quite a few! We are so grateful to have a school in such a fabulous location!

We received our Chromebook Cart this week and will begin to utilize this technology in many ways! Students will use them to research their state, type writing assignments and create a final Prezi.

Open House is THIS Wednesday evening! Our classroom will be open from 7-8PM. Please come by and have your child show you around. We have lots to share with you!

5th Graders will be taking the STAR Science Test beginning on Wednesday.

There will be No School, Monday, May 26 in honor of Memorial Day.

Thank you for your continued support both in class and at home! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at rhonig@mountainesd.org.

Best,

Ms. Honig

Helpful Link for State Report

Hello 4th & 5th Graders!

I have found a very helpful link that you may want to use as you research your state for your State Report. It is called the World Atlas and it is located here.

Once there, you can click on North America, then click on the United States and then find your state! Use the yellow menu bar to locate information that you are looking for.

Sincerely,
Ms. Honig

Week of 5/12 Newsletter

Dear 4th & 5th Grade Families,

I hope this letter finds you well, and you’re staying cool! Due to the extremely warm weather forecasts for this week, please be sure to send your child with a water bottle and dressed in layers. It is important they stay hydrated and cool.
Our students have been working towards a class goal of going down to the creek and it looks like we will get to do it THIS Friday, May 16. I would love to have a few parents join us, so please let me know if you are available (1:30-2:50). Our goals will be to observe the creek habitat using what we’ve learned about landforms and minerals - testing rock samples for calcite as well as identifying sediment, and the meandering path of the creek. Then we will spend some time cooling off in the water!
Open House is NEXT Wednesday evening, May 21! Please mark your calendars and plan to visit our classroom. We have a lot to share with you and would love for you to come. The classrooms will be open from 7-8PM and kids and families are welcomed. Hope to see you there!

What we’re learning this week:

Math: 4th Graders will continue learning about area and perimeter of complex figures. 5th Graders will be learning about complementary and adjacent angles.

ELA/Social Sciences: We are reading Patty Reed’s Doll and following the characters as they travel West. Students are also researching states for a state report. The students will learn how to read maps, gather information from texts and write in a variety of text structures. Most of the work will be done in class, although some will be sent home.

Science: 4th Graders are learning about the water cycle in preparation for 5th grade science. 5th graders are learning about Living Systems and practicing for the STAR Science Test (they will take it next week).

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at rhonig@mountainesd.org. Thank you for your continued support at home and in the classroom!

Smiles,

Ms. Honig

Hello 4th & 5th Grade Families,

I hope this letter finds you all well and enjoying the Spring! I can't believe we have 6 weeks left of school! The Panoramic photo will be taken tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6 (thank you Nikki Brooks!). If you would like to order a copy for your child, please complete and return the form to the office. (Order form can be downloaded HERE).

Our Mountain School Annual Auction is this Saturday! Raffle tickets were sent home last week and there is some more information about it in the Monday Folders.

Open House is right around the corner too! Please make your calendars for Wednesday, May 21, 7PM. Our classrooms will be open and we hope to see you all there!

What we're learning about:

Math: 4th graders will be working on Area & Perimeter of squares & rectangles (this will be a good time to review multiplication & division facts!!)
5th graders will be working on measuring angles.

Science: 4th graders are wrapping up a unit on Landforms, with a test this Wednesday.
5th graders have begun practicing for the STAR Science Test (to be taken later in the month) and will also be learning about Living Systems.

You may have noticed that I am transitioning my email to rhonig@mountainesd.org, so if you haven't already changed it in your address book, please do so. However, for the rest of the year, I will be receiving emails at all of my addresses. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Best,

Ms. Honig
